My sister Becky made me this little terrarium for Christmas and I could not be more pleased with it.
It’s in a hand-blown Victorian fishbowl that has a ruffled edge and all sorts of beautiful little bubbles and imperfections in the glass. She collected the little mosses and plants for the mini landscape over the summer. It’s truly spectacular and a perfect home for this tiny donkey I’ve been saving for something for years.
I’ve been in kind of a wheel spinning, non productive post holiday fog. I’ve got lot’s of stuff I should be doing, would even like to be doing, but instead of really focusing on any of it I keep doing stuff like spending HOURS making a new pin cushion.
*Thanks to everybody who’s bidding at the Kim Benefit on Ebay, people are being incredibly generous*
i know exactly what you mean about the fog. i am wandering around hoping for that big lightening strike of inspiration to hit me and so far…… nothing. i am hoping some sunshine and tea will help. your terrarium is lovely, what a good sister.
beautiful pincushion!!
What a wonderful terrarium with perfect container and dear little friend. My husband is a plant scientist and a real moss man. We brake for bogs. He keeps his terrarium in a vacuum flask. I had to call him over to get a look at yours!
The terrarium is beautiful. I, too, have been sucked into the fog. I made a bid on the Fortitude, but it sailed out of my price range….congratulations!
I love this terrarium and all your creations!
the terrarium is beautiful! what a special present. it is a secret little eco world. .

I should make one for myself!!!!
It looks nice!
oh ann, that terrarium is so sweet and fantasy-inspiring… i have been wanting to make one for years. i have a little pipe-cleaner lion in a jungle of rosemary that i look at as i sew… you can see a peek of him in my last post on my blog. hope the fog is lifting, and i hope to see you again soon!
[…] It’s way more than I neede for one little fish bowl (the terrarium becky made me didn’t survive a couple environmental challenges and a persistent mold problem) so I’m going to make a few other terrariums and arrangements. The first one is a thoughtful little man in a garden. […]
[…] There are tiny mushrooms growing in my terrarium! […]
I am completely fascinated by your terrarium tales! My mom used to make these for us when we were little. I forgot all about them! Thank you for the great memories!
these terrariums are so, so, so, so, so, so neat! what is your basic method for making these? do you get the soil and rocks from the forest and then forage for various mosses and lichens? how do you collect the mosses and then get them growing in the bowl? i really want to make one of these now!
We extremely appreciate your blog post. You can find so many means we could put it to good use with minimum effort with time and resources. Thank you really for helping make this post respond to many queries we have got before now.
