The daily bird – ava – 8PM EST.

I tried to post Wednesday’s bird, lucy, here yesterday but wordpress was being weird and slow and wouldn’t let me. Here she in prospect park. Lucy was a good poser. It was kinda breezy yesterday and she stood on that skinny little twig unassisted.

And a little work in progress.

A few cake toppers are hitting the road tomorrow and these are some millinery bits and pieces getting a little paint and glitter for one that I’m finishing up right now. I made a last minute trip to Tinsel Trading for flowers this afternoon.

bella

The flea market was great again this weekend and I’ll give the full and official report on it later but for now here is the first thing made from new aquisitions, the daily bird bella.

She’s made from a spectacularly unflattering (love the print though) vintage dress. She is one of a small edition and will be in the shop at 1PM EST.

And work in progress in the strange golden light that I get in the early morning here.

miss havisham

This poor wretched ANCIENT wedding dress is destined to become birds and ship sails and cake toppers and maybe a white owl. The morning it arrived I took it out of the box and put it on immediately. This also happened to be the morning I finished the swiss dot fabric wedding cake and cake topper (below) and that was sitting on my big work table. If I had any balls at all I would have used the timer and taken a picture of that little miss havisham tableaux for you but you’ll just have to use your imagination.

I think the satin is mostly too damaged to use but there’s tons and tons of good lace.

terrarium

My sister Becky made me this little terrarium for Christmas and I could not be more pleased with it.

3terrarium.jpg
It’s in a hand-blown Victorian fishbowl that has a ruffled edge and all sorts of beautiful little bubbles and imperfections in the glass. She collected the little mosses and plants for the mini landscape over the summer. It’s truly spectacular and a perfect home for this tiny donkey I’ve been saving for something for years.

I’ve been in kind of a wheel spinning, non productive post holiday fog. I’ve got lot’s of stuff I should be doing, would even like to be doing, but instead of really focusing on any of it I keep doing stuff like spending HOURS making a new pin cushion.

*Thanks to everybody who’s bidding at the Kim Benefit on Ebay, people are being incredibly generous*

drop back and punt

That’s where I am with the Johnson Christmas window. About 75 % of what I was working on, planning on, failed dismally in the final stages so I started a lot of it over. It’s all working now but I had planned on installing it this morning and instead not one single thing, part or element is actually completely finished, also I need, or would very much like, white paper confetti ( the old timey kind) and I can’t find it, if anybody knows where I can get it in fairly large quantity in NYC I’d be eternally grateful. Here’s a preview for WIP.
Happy Thanksgiving.

morning

Part of the mess I made yesterday looked sorta pretty this morning. The whole mess isn’t so lovely but this is generally a nice place to be, a nice place to work. If it was twice as big I’d probably never leave.

I got the branches and some leaves and acorns (it’s a very good year for acorns, last year was a wash-out here) in Prospect Park yesterday after the flea market. I needed them for some pictures I want to take and something I’m making.

fleamarket/thrift report: mini hammer, little silver spoon with a ship on it, a cigar box and another thing I’ve already started to make something with, I’ll show it to you later.

*note on felt birds*
Little felt bird packages went out last Thurday so hopefully they’ll arrive in a day or two.
